After an impressive first season under Javi Gracia last year, Watford will have been keen to build this summer and improve.
It’s been a quiet transfer window thus far, though, with Craig Dawson the only significant arrival alongside deals for youngsters Joao Pedro and Tom Dele-Bashiru.
One player they’ve been trying to get all summer is Ismaïla Sarr from Rennes and two days ago saw them make their biggest offer for the player yet.
And it seems they will continue pushing to get his signature before Thursday’s deadline with France Football reporting that the Hornets have now made the 21-year-old their priority signing.
They say that Watford are trying to sign up a deal for Sarr after missing out on Allan Saint-Maximin, who joined Newcastle United last week.
Rennes are happy to do a deal, but they want €35m for the winger. It’s not mentioned if that’s a price Watford will pay, but reports throughout the summer have suggested that may not be the case.
If Sarr is a priority, they will have to move quickly, with France Football claiming two other Premier League sides are interested, although they don’t know who they are as yet.
