Last summer, Brighton & Hove Albion signed Leo Ostigard from Norwegian side Molde and the 19-year-old linked with the English club’s U23 side.

He featured in the Premier League 2 during the 2018/19 season and only made it to the bench once for the senior team against Derby County in the FA Cup and finished the match as an unused substitute.

The Seagulls allowed the centre-back to join second division German club, FC St. Pauli on a season-long loan deal on Thursday and prior to completing his temporary move, he gave an interview to Norwegian outlet Nettavisen.

Ostigard is hoping to make it to Brighton’s first team once he returns from his loan spell next summer.

“Nothing has been clarified beyond this year, but I expect that Brighton has faith in me and will follow suit. Then we’ll see what happens after the loan”, he explained.

The teenager will have the next season to showcase his abilities to improve his chances of breaking into Brighton’s first team.

Ostigard will have a year left on his contract at the American Express Community Stadium once he returns from a year’s loan spell from St. Pauli.
