Tottenham Hotspur exercised the option to extend Toby Alderweireld’s contract until 2020 and with that, a release clause of €27m was added to the current deal.
Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws explains the 30-year-old is expected to report to preseason training and potential suitors have ‘two weeks left’ to sign him for the aforementioned price.
After that, the release clause will no longer be valid, meaning interested clubs will have to negotiate a deal with the Champions League runners-up to secure his services.
There have been reports of interest from Italy, and in England Manchester United have been linked with the former Southampton man.
However, HLN claims there’s been no bids made for Alderweireld and there’s a chance he could finish the 2019/20 season with Mauricio Pochettino’s side and leave them as a free agent in the summer of 2020.
The player had earlier made it clear he’s quite content to continue with Tottenham next season.
Perhaps Juventus can’t start eyeing up their next free signing.
