While Everton have been busy enforcing their midfield this week with the capture of Andre Gomes, there’s still a chance they’ll lose a key man this summer.
Idrissa Gana Gueye continues to be linked with a move away, with Paris Saint Germain still on the hunt for a defensive midfielder and their interest not waning since the January transfer window.
Should Gueye depart, Everton will need to find a replacement for the Senegalese midfielder. One player they’ve reportedly identified to fill the potential void is Lille’s Thiago Mendes.
Indeed, back in February La Voix du Nord reported that they agreed on a €23m deal for the Brazilian.
Well, it seems that Mendes remains a player on the Toffees’ radar, with Le10 Sport covering their interest once more.
They say the Blues remain keen on the midfielder and even sent an offer to those in charge at Lille. Presumably, they’re continuing to look at him as a potential replacement for Gueye.
However, it seems they’ll have to be on their toes to replace him as Lyon are in hot pursuit.
They’re set to sell Tanguy Ndombele, with Tottenham looking the likely destination.
Should it happen, they’ll need a replacement, and they’ve lined up a €35m deal for Mendes to replace him. The Brazilian, say Le10, would sign a four-year contract at the club.
If he doesn’t end up at Lyon, Southampton are another potential destination, with La Voix du Nord reporting Southampton ‘could quickly go on the offensive’ for his signature.
If Everton still have any interest, now is the time to act.
