Antoine Coupland is a little gutted this week, but a trip to Sheffield United soon should cheer him up.
The young midfielder was expected to play for Ottawa Fury on Tuesday evening in a friendly against Montreal Impact. At just 15 years and six months, it would have made him the youngest player to have ever appeared in Canadian football.
The match was called off, strangely because Montreal couldn’t put a team together due to injuries and international commitments. This means Coupland won’t be able to break the record, currently held by Alphonso Davies, who made his debut at 15 years and seven months, and is now owned by Bayern Munich.
Quoted by Radio Canada, he said: “It was my coach who arranged this for me. It’s a two week trial with the team. I will try to integrate with the team as quickly as possible to represent Canada and show what I can do.”
