Following the retirement of Petr Cech and the potential transfer of David Ospina to Napoli, Arsenal are looking at the goalkeeping market (even if they still have Emiliano Martinez).
Reports on Thursday suggested the Gunners were ‘closing in’ on Dynamo Dresden’s Markus Schubert, who is available on a “free” as his contract with the 2. Bundesliga side expires at the end of the month.
The 21-year-old is now expected to sign for the Gunners, who will still have to pay some money.
This is what Bild reveal on Friday, explaining Arsenal will still have to pay Dynamo Dresden some training compensation thanks to Article VII of FIFA’s Transfer Regulation.
As the German newspaper explain, clubs who have trained players under the age of 23 must be compensated for each season played between the ages of 12 and 21 if he moves abroad.
This is ‘regardless of whether the contract expires or not’.
It’s stated the amount depends on the ‘donating’ and ‘receiving’ clubs, but it ‘significantly higher’ when switching to England.
In Schubert’s case, Arsenal will have to ‘squeeze out’ around €70k for each year the goalkeeper played at Dynamo Dresden, which is likely to total around €560k.
This must be paid ‘within four weeks of signing the contract’.
Bild explains this corresponds to ‘only half his current market value’, but for the 2. Bundesliga side, as they say, ‘it’s better than nothing’.
