Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe reported Arsenal have made contact over signing Jordan Veretout.
It wasn’t a big deal, just an enquiry, probably to find out the possibility of signing the Fiorentina player.
The midfielder was said to have ‘fond memories’ of English football, following his time at Aston Villa, however, he’s looking for a Champions League club to help him catch Didier Deschamps’ eye.
It wasn’t the first time the Gunners have been linked, with claims coming from France in April and then sporadically from Italy.
Veretout’s Italian representative, Mario Giuffredi, has been speaking to Italian radio, with his words picked up by CalcioNapoli24.
They’re interested because Napoli are the club most heavily linked. Giuffredi talked up interest from several clubs, and then said: “Roma and Arsenal? I don’t like naming names.”
Someone has named them, just off the record, and the agent clearly doesn’t want to deny it.
It could be that Arsenal and others are being used to pressure Napoli into getting a deal done.
