If there are two markets where Everton are popping up a lot lately it’s South America, mainly Argentina, and France.
Marcel Brands and his recruitment team must be looking at the markets, with agents and intermediaries only too happy to help them.
Over the past week, L’Equipe have linked Everton with Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin and Adrien Tameze, along with Memphis Depay at Lyon, where they’ve also been linked with Martin Terrier and Bertrand Traore.
Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe has a new link, but not in Ligue 1. The Toffees are said to be one of the clubs to have made a ‘firm offer’ for Jean-Philippe Mateta.
He moved to Mainz last summer from Lyon, which could mean he caught the eye when Everton were looking at other Ligue 1 options.
Marco Silva’s side aren’t so often linked with Bundesliga players.
Five offers are in for Mateta, a 21 year old, and the figures are put at €20-25m. Mainz don’t want to sell, but L’Equipe feels that could change if the figure reaches €35-40m.
He scored 14 goals and added three assists in 34 Bundesliga matches last season.
