Moussa Dembele’s excellent performance for Celtic against Rangers at the weekend has got the Catalan press talking. Celtic face Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, and Dembele’s hat-trick means he’s being seen as the Scottish club’s hope in the Champions League tie.

Catalan newspaper Sport say:For years, Glasgow Celtic’s structure is based on an identical style: a strong defence, a centre of the pitch more destructive than creative, and a scoring striker who assumes all responsibility for the attack.

‘If in the past Larsson, Vennegoor of Hesselink and Samaras, among others, were clear references in attack, this responsibility lies today in Moussa Dembele, a reinforcement as surprising as exciting for the Scottish side.’

Screen Shot 2016-09-12 at 12.16.21Sport explain that many clubs from the Premier League wanted Dembele, and he refused an approach from Tottenham, with the competition being so great that Rodgers gave up.

However, the youngster’s agent then contacted Rodgers and it was felt Celtic provided a great opportunity for the player at this stage of his career.

It may all have been very different had Tottenham succeeded in buying Dembele when they first tried in the last winter transfer window. But as it stands, Sport see Dembele as Celtic’s hope against Barcelona, and a ‘dream’ signing for manager Brendan Rodgers.
