Just under an hour after the BBC reported that Tottenham had made a €60m (£53m) bid for Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso, an article appeared on El Desmarque explaining how his club rejecting it could benefit the Argentine.
Currently with his national team, the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has become a target for a number of sides after his great season on loan with the La Liga club.
Making the deal permanent, knowing they could make a quick profit, Betis slapped a €100m release clause on the 23-year-old.
The BBC article reports the Spaniards ‘want to sell’ closer to that figure, meaning there’s a good chance Tottenham’s bid will be rejected.
It basically means he gets a pay rise if big bids get turned away.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of Tottenham’s bid for the Betis player, as there’s been no indication (yet) that it’s been officially rejected.
