AC Milan had a ‘fluctuating’ season when it came to defending, claims Tuttosport.
The Italian newspaper explains the Rossoneri have identified Shkodran Mustafi of Arsenal and Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne as summer targets to strengthen their defence.
It’s claimed the Serie A side have ‘already initiated’ contacts with the Germany international and the fullback as the duo are considered good signings.
Earlier this season, Ivan Gazidis left the Gunners and joined Milan as their chief executive and he knows Mustafi well, having signed him from Valencia in 2016.
Mustafi spent two seasons at Sampdoria between 2012 and 2014 and Gennaro Gattuso’s side are of the belief his experience in Italy would be an ‘important aspect’ if he decides to join them.
The 27-year-old has endured a difficult campaign under the guidance of Unai Emery and some fans have turned on him.
Tuttosport explains it’s ‘difficult’ for the Premier League side to consider Mustafi’s sale after investing heavily in his signing three years ago.
