A few months ago, the whole of Belgium football was rocked by a huge corruption scandal, with referees, agents and managers arrested and dragged to court.
This caused many footballers to reconsider their entourage, like Wolfsburg striker Landry Dimata, currently on loan at Anderlecht, who, alongside Watford’s Dodi Lukebakio, left Godson Management for a German firm back in January.
Speaking to Sport/Foot this week, the Belgium U21 revealed he had a chat with Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku, who gave him some sound advice that may have helped him make up his mind.
He said: “[Lukaku] came into my room. We spoke for three hours. We hadn’t left Godson yet. He told us: ‘Everything you’re going through now, I’ve had it, I’ve gone through some crazy stuff, with agents, schemes. Decisions were made not because I wanted them, but because it helped out agents’.
“He told us to take control of our lives, that we were adults. What he said stuck with us. He didn’t know what was going on with us behind the scenes. Dodi and I were already thinking about changing a few things, and the fact Rom spoke to us was the trigger.”
After all, the Manchester United forward has been involved in a number of big deals despite only being 25 years of age.
First was his transfer from Anderlecht to Chelsea for £13.5m, followed by a £31.8m one to Everton before the Red Devils spent £76.2m on him.
Mino Raiola was his agent in all of those, and we all know how much commission the Dutch representative likes to pocket.
