Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the South American media after his side’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace this Wednesday night.
With such a big night for the Spurs due to the debut at their new stadium, there wasn’t much more to be discussed in the interview with ESPN Brasil. It was all about their new home.
Although Pochettino also had a lot to say about the new ground in the press conference, South Americans always feel more comfortable speaking their native language, so here are some of his quotes.
“Very happy. The truth is that the team responded very well,” Pochettino told Natali Gedra from ESPN Brasil. “It was hard to predict how they would respond. Each one feels different and controls emotions in a different way from others. But the truth is that the team responded well.
“It was a day of many emotions, many faces and situations that will always be in the memory. The truth is that I was able to share this day with all people. Everyone wanted to see us win, it’s a historic day for Tottenham, I think we’re fortunate to be able to live this night.”
Asked about the impact that a new stadium could have on the team, Pochettino said: “The impact is incredible. I believe we are already at home, and now must begin to create this place where we need to feel comfortable, for our rivals to feel uncomfortable.”
Now with eight Premier League fixtures to go, most of them at their own ground, Pochettino believes that could help Tottenham to achieve their last goals of the season.
“I think it’s normal for us to be happy now. It’s normal for the team to have a motivating effect, to multiply, and to give us the energy to achieve the things we want at the end of the season.”
