Striker says he could have signed for Man United, years before West Ham move

 

Italian striker Marco Borriello has revealed that he could have joined Manchester United or Real Madrid in 2010, but instead opted for AS Roma.

Borriello has been speaking to Italian newspaper Libero about is career, and was asked about the turning point of his career when he was offered a bumper contract to sign for AS Roma from AC Milan.

He said: “I could’ve gone to Real Madrid or Manchester United, but I chose to stay in Italy, at a great club. 17 goals in the first year, 4 in the Champions League.”

The 34-year-old, recently, signed for Cagliari on a free transfer, and has scored two goals in the first two league games. Borriello also found the back of the net four times in a Coppa Italia match against Serie B side SPAL.

In his long career, Borriello always stayed in Italy except for a brief loan spell at West Ham United in 2014. In total, he played for 13 clubs, some of them twice, and Genoa three times.
