Taiwo Awoniyi cannot stop scoring.
The Liverpool loanee, currently at Royal Excel Mouscron after a poor first six months with KAA Gent, scored his fifth goal in six games at the weekend in a 1-0 win against KSC Lokeren, making it 18 points from a possible 18 since he arrived for his second spell at the club.
The aim for the Reds is for Awoniyi to get enough experience and caps for Nigeria to be able to get a work permit in England, where he can then be sent on loan to get used to English football before, hopefully, integrating the first-team squad.
However, if it were up to Royal Excel Mouscron defender Mërgim Vojvoda, the Nigerian should stay at the club in the long run.
He said, relayed by L’Avenir: “He should stay his entire life here. We have to offer him a twenty year contract. He’s an excellent player with great qualities. If you ask me, it didn’t work with Gent because he was always in the box. Taiwo is a forward who needs to showcase his power and sometimes come deep to find the ball”.
With the stats he’s putting up, it’s difficult to argue, especially since he’s playing against the same level of opposition, just in a different team.
He even scored and assisted another against his former team a couple of weeks ago.
At this rate, however, Awoniyi will end up being too expensive for Mouscron, but they can always dream.
