Marcelo Brozovic to Chelsea was one of the hotter stories towards the end of the transfer window.
The Croatian midfielder was linked with pretty much every Premier League side over the course of the summer, but the one that stuck to the end was the Stamford Bridge contingent as they looked to improve their midfield.
Reports in Italy suggested Inter Milan wanted to sell Brozovic to fund the Joao Mario signing, but the Chinese backers still made the move happen regardless of the Croatia international’s situation.
Either way, clubs are now going to find it much harder to sign him, as Gazzetta dello Sport report the player is on the verge of signing a new contract, with the club ready to set the asking price at €50m.
Available for around €30m in the summer, Brozovic, by not signing anywhere, has somehow seen his value increase, despite Inter trying to sell him.
It’s all a bit confusing, but if he plays and performs over the course of the coming season, and with the market as it is, what’s £42m to Premier League clubs these days?
