Chelsea’s ‘astonishing’ last minute move, tell player they want him, then forget

 

Shortly before the transfer window closed, Chelsea made contact with the entourage of Presnel Kimpembe, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.

The 21 year old defender plays for PSG, having come through the ranks of the French club, and, as Antonio Conte searched around at the last minute for a purchase, the player’s representatives were contacted.

L’Equipe say Chelsea made it known they’d be keen on making a move for the player as the transfer window was closing. Kimpembe’s people were made aware of the interest and a willingness to do a deal.

And then, nothing. Chelsea moved on to other targets and appeared to completely forget about the youngster. There’s been no further contact, and of course Chelsea bought David Luiz instead.

L’Equipe call it an ‘astonishing episode’, but at least Kimpembe now has less competition for places at PSG, after Chelsea plumped for Luiz.
