One of many Manchester City players to leave the club on transfer deadline day, Samir Nasri ended up rejecting advances from Besiktas, opting for a move to Sevilla instead.

Set to play under Sampaoli, the Frenchman was unveiled during a press conference on Thursday, where he explained exactly what happened regarding his transfer away from the Premier League.

Relayed by Le10 Sport, Nasri said: “Pep Guardiola wanted to keep me until the very last moment, but I’d made my mind up that I wanted to play somewhere where I could give it my all.

“With all the respect I have for Besiktas and the Turkish league, Monchi and the team made me choose Sevilla. They’re one of the top four of the best league in Europe. I wouldn’t have found that in Turkey”.

The former Arsenal star’s only official appearance under Pep Guardiola this summer came in a relatively short cameo against West Ham last weekend, and Nasri was also left out of the team’s Champions League squad for the qualifying stages.

The player made 176 appearances for Manchester City over five years, scoring 27 goals and picking up 40 assists in the process.

There is no option for Sevilla to buy Nasri throughout the loan.
