After a rather frantic end to the transfer window for Michy Batshuayi, the Belgian finally managed to find himself a landing spot at Crystal Palace, where he will undoubtedly play more than he would have had he stayed at Valencia.
Needing a striker capable of finding the back of the net regularly, Roy Hodgson turned his attention to the Chelsea man late on, but only after talks between the Blues and Tottenham had taken place.
Various English reports stated Marina Granovskaia and co. asked for as much as £8m from Spurs to loan their forward, which seems a bit excessive.
However, according to DH, Tottenham were actually prepared to pay a considerable amount, just not the aforementioned fee.
The Belgian outlet state Mauricio Pochettino wanted Batshuayi at Wembley, having had the former Marseille star recommended to him by Marcelo Bielsa, and convinced Daniel Levy to put €6m for a six month loan on the table.
But Chelsea, fearful of strengthening a direct rival, decided to turn it down, leading to Crystal Palace swooping in at the very last moment and getting him for (most likely) much cheaper.
Once again, no incomings for Spurs.
