“With all due respect” – Striker reveals ‘big offer’ from West Ham, and why he’s said no

AC Milan new signing Krzysztof Piatek has spoken to his home country’s media about the move to the Rossoneri side.

In an interview with Przegląd Sportowy, the player has spoken about the feeling of signing for such a great club in what should be the big chance of his career to play at the top level.

The interview was pretty long, so there was room for Przegląd Sportowy to ask about the interest from other clubs in the race, specifically mentioning West Ham United’s efforts to sign the striker.

Piatek has confirmed that there was an attempt from the London side, but claims that both he and his former club Genoa preferred to take Milan’s offer instead.

“Yes, there was a big offer, but Genoa rejected it. They wanted to get along with Milan, with whom they have a very good relationship,” Piatek told Przegląd Sportowy.

“And I didn’t leave much doubt. I was determined about Milan. With all due respect to West Ham, but I came to a much bigger club. Money can be at a similar level, but at this stage of my career it’s not the most important for me. Here I have the chance to play in the Champions League.”

Piatek is joining Milan on a €35m deal, with a contract which will run until the summer of 2023. He’s had a pretty impressive first half of season with 19 goals in 21 appearances for Genoa.
