It’s hard to work out what West Ham’s priority is this January: is it a striker or a midfielder?
Heavily linked with both, the Hammers were reportedly close to getting a deal done for Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez, as Galicia Press stated a deal was a ‘matter of hours away’.
On Thursday, it’s a midfielder’s turn to be the centre of attention, this time in France, as Euro United, part of Paris United’s group, claim Stanislav Lobotka is ready to snub a number of clubs to play at London Stadium.
The likes of Everton, Zenit St-Petersburg and Southampton are mentioned as competition, as are Napoli, who are said to be the only club to have made an offer as things stand.
This comes after Le10 Sport claimed the Toffees and Marco Silva had identified the Celta man as a potential replacement for Idrissa Gueye, wanted by Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the Slovakian midfielder has a preference, and that is to play under Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham.
Why isn’t said, but perhaps he feels the former Manchester City manager is the right man to help him develop.
Until West Ham make an offer, however, his dreams will remain just that.
