Despite being pretty much ever present in the Premier League this season, Matt Doherty could be on the verge of seeing some competition arrive for his starting spot.
According to El Desmarque in Spain, Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be ‘very close’ to reaching an agreement with Kenny Tete, currently at Lyon.
Their information comes amid interest from La Liga side Betis, having been told that Wolves are leading the race for the young full-back, who turned 23 in October.
Making just six league appearances for Lyon so far this season (during which he picked up three assists), the Netherlands international could prove good competition for his Irish counterpart.
However, it’s worth pointing out here that El Desmarque are clear in that this is an agreement between Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and the player, not Lyon.
That last part isn’t mentioned, and with Rafael out of contract in the summer, there’s a good chance the Ligue 1 side will want to keep their man.
We’ll have to wait and see.
