Toby Alderweireld is in a good place right, explain HLN in their Thursday edition.
The Belgian newspaper has a look at the player’s situation and mindset after Tottenham used their option to extend his contract by a further year.
The defender will be able to leave during a window this summer, up to 14 days before the close of the market, for €28m. It’s thought to be a clean-cut situation, despite initial denials from Spurs about the clause even existing.
Alderweireld’s future is largely in his own hands, but it would be considered almost certain that a club will try to activate the clause, and there’s also a good possibility that Spurs will make efforts for another renewal which would remove it.
HLN have asked the Belgium international about the extension, and he’s quoted as saying: “No, I was not surprised. On the one hand, I am happy that they have confidence in me and are satisfied with my work.”
The Belgian newspaper makes some effort to explain there’s no bad feeling, no frustration with his Tottenham situation, and Alderweireld is very happy both in his home and work life.
No boats will be rocked, he’ll just go with the flow and concentrate on his game until anything concrete happens.
