One of the main reasons suggested as to why Liverpool hadn’t completed the signing of Piotr Zielinski from Udinese was because of Napoli’s persistent interest in the Polish midfielder.

However, this appears to all be a problem of the past after Napoli have finally got the midfielder they needed in Hector Herrera.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Mexican international is on his way to the San Paolo for next season, with the Italian newspaper claiming the deal is ‘done’.

There had been rumours that Liverpool were also interested in signing the Porto midfielder, but that always seemed unlikely considering how close they were to getting Zielinski a month or so ago following claims from the Polish media.

The signing of Herrera by Napoli, however, should allow Liverpool to finalise the details with Udinese regarding the transfer fee for Zielinski after reports from Gazzetta dello Sport a couple of days ago claiming personal terms had been agreed between the Merseyside club and the player.

Corriere do say Napoli haven’t entirely given up on the prospect of signing the Poland international, currently on duty with his country at the 2016 Euros, but they are very aware of the difficulties ahead of them to get a deal done.

Advantage Liverpool.
