The name Arnor Sigurdsson might not mean anything to Arsenal fans now, but it could down the line if the player gets his dream move.
Signed by CSKA Moscow over the summer from Norrköping in Sweden, the 19-year-old has slowly but surely integrated the Russian side’s first-team, starting four of their last five games, scoring a goal against Zenit Saint-Petersburg along the way.
Already capped twice by Iceland, the versatile midfielder, who can play down the left as well as thought the middle, gave an interview to CSKA News, where he was asked about which Premier League team he supported, to which he replied the Gunners.
After admitting being a glory hunter until the age of seven until his grandfather and uncle made him see sense, Sigurdsson was then asked if playing for Arsenal was a childhood dream of his.
Growing up watching Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal, Sigurdsson was also quizzed on his feelings when it was announced the Frenchman would be departing the Emirates over the summer.
He explained: “I am one of those who wanted a change. I like Emery’s style, but Wenger will always be my manager. He built an incredible career in London, did a lot for the club. He became their manager three years before I was born!”
Claiming Cesc Fabregas as an idol until the Spaniard signed for Chelsea, Sigurdsson also revealed he ‘followed’ Messi and newly crowned Ballon d’Or Modric, as well as national teammate and namesake Gylfi Sigurdsson.
He only turned 19 in May and is currently playing for a Champions League side. Who knows what will happen in the future? But if Arsenal wants someone with his attributes who would jump at the chance to play at the Emirates, they now know where to look.
