Wolverhampton Wanderers star Rui Patrício is about to sue the ex-president of his former club Sporting, according to reports from Portugal.
The story started with Bruno de Carvalho’s statement to the Portuguese court regarding the attacks at Alcochete in May.
The former president, who’s accused of being the responsible for the violence against players, has claimed that both Patrício and William Carvalho had a good relationship with the the fan group who attacked players and manager.
“William and Rui Patrício wanted to leave for a long time, and I have to tell you that they had regular lunches with members of Juventude Leonina. William and Rui Patrício were not saints. I, except for Christmas dinners, never dined with any fan group.”
Willian and Patrício weren’t very happy with those quotes, and as reported by Correio da Manhã, they will sue Bruno de Carvalho for lying to the court.
Sources said these quotes threaten ‘their good name and dignity’, and it ‘doesn’t make any sense’ to say they had a good relationship with such fans, since they were the main targets of that attack.
A source close to Rui Patrício has also recalled that the goalkeeper was the fans’ target when they threw flares towards him before a game against Benfica.
This Monday, newspaper Record brings an interview with former Sporting manager Jorge Jesus. He’s also claimed that Bruno de Carvalho lied to court, and has revealed that instead of being attacked by a belt, the coach was actually punched in the face and knocked down.
