Following claims from the English press saying Liverpool are after Alex Telles from Porto, the Portuguese media reacts today.
Newspaper Correio da Manhã brings a short story ruling out the chance of a January move, given the importance that the player has to the squad.
The outlet points out that Jorge, who’s the second option and is at Porto on loan from Monaco, is nowhere near Telles’ level, making the board afraid of letting the star go.
What Correio doesn’t seem to have a problem with is the price, and there’s a reason for that. The €40m mentioned by the English press is exactly the amount of the 25-year-old’s release clause at the Dragons.
But the thing is: if that’s the release clause, Porto don’t have much of a choice about a move in January or in June, do they? There’s a possibility the clause is only applicable in the summer.
Telles has been impressing at Porto for a while now, especially for his attacking skills, as he’s made 20 assists in the last season.
His form since the summer hasn’t been the best, but still, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him moving to a Premier League side in the future.
