Fernando Llorente may have only got 15 minutes against PSV on Tuesday evening, but it was enough for him to get an assist and help Tottenham win the crucial match.
It was a double from Harry Kane which turned the game around into a 2-1 victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and the England striker’s importance means there’s usually little chance for Llorente.
So far this season the Spaniard has picked up 27 minutes in the Champions League and just 13 minutes in the Premier League, as well as two appearances in the League Cup.
With a contract expiring in June, it’s unlikely the 33 year old will continue at his current club, especially if he wants a good amount of game time before he retires.
Never shy when it comes to speaking about his future, Llorente spoke to the Spanish media in the mixed zone at Wembley and Estadio Deportivo quote him as saying: “I’ve been away from home for many years, I’d love to go back to the Spanish league.”
About his successful 15 minutes at Wembley, Llorente said: “I came in and things went well, so I’m happy to have helped the team, I hope I continue to have opportunities, it’s important for me because it gives me the confidence to keep working, it’s not easy when you do not play because mentally you have to be very strong to continue training hard. For nobody its enough, all players want to play always, but it is the role that I hold.”
