After failing to make his way into Pep Guardiola’s plans at Manchester City, Jason Denayer left the Premier League winners and made a permanent switch to Lyon in August.
Since moving to France, the defender has made five appearances so far and seen his new club win the last four matches, which includes one against his former side in the Champions League.
The Belgium international has revealed he had plans to join the Ligue 1 outfit for several years and finally got his wish in the summer transfer window.
“For me, it was a will to come that did not date from today. In the summer, discussions have gone further than before. Coming to Lyon, it was in my head for several years, it was clear,” Denayer was quoted as saying by Foot Mercato.
“I think for everyone and in any sport, we want stability. After four years [of going out on loan], I needed something stable, something to focus on in the long run. Lyon is a club with a lot of visibility, which will allow me to show myself and return to the national team,” the centre-back explained.
