On September 25th, Sport reported that there’s a ‘war’ going on to secure Frenkie De Jong’s signature and Barcelona are ‘convinced’ they have laid the foundations to sign the Ajax star in the future.
Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo covers journalist Oriol Domènech’s information about the 21-year-old, which he revealed to Catalunya Radio’s program ‘El Club de la Mitjanit’.
There were several approaches in the summer transfer window, but Ajax rejected every proposal they received as they had no plans to part ways with him. The versatile player’s form so far this season has seen him continue to attract interest from various clubs.
It’s claimed the Dutchman wants to make a decision on his future in the ‘coming weeks’ and evaluate the offers that he has on the table as he does not want to drag these talks on for the rest of the season.
Ajax and De Jong want to end the ongoing saga and reach an agreement with another club for the player to join next season.
De Telegraaf spoke to the player’s agent, Ali Dursun, who refused to provide any update on his client’s situation and urged them to contact Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars to know more about De Jong’s future.
“I can neither confirm nor deny this. You should ask Overmars. I send to him all proposals that come to me,” Dursun explained.
Mundo mentions Barcelona are one of the clubs that like De Jong ‘a lot’, but they will face competition in bringing him to the Camp Nou next summer.
