Chelsea winger Charly Musonda’s last two loan spells at Real Betis and Celtic have ended in a disappointment as the Belgian struggled to get regular playing time.

After joining the Spanish club on loan in January 2016, his temporary move was extended for one more season, but a lack of minutes forced him to return to Stamford Bridge in 2017.

The Blues had agreed a 18-month loan deal with Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic at the start of this year, and it was terminated in May 2018 as he didn’t received sufficient game time.

Despite struggling during his last two loan spells, the 21-year-old explained “I am richer in experiences” while talking about how his struggles at Betis and Celtic has benefited him.

Maurizio Sarri allowed the versatile attacker to join Vitesse Arnhem on a loan deal at the end of last month, and Musonda remains hopeful that his time in Netherlands will be different to the ones he had in Spain and Scotland.

“The agreement with Vitesse has only been made late. In England, I could only end up in the Championship, but I wanted to go abroad. I hope to develop further at Vitesse,” he said, as quoted by Dutch outlet AD.

Had Musonda impressed at Celtic, it’s likely Rodgers would have had him back this season, but the youngster now needs to kick and start consistently justifying the hype around his talent.

Other youngsters have flourished under Rodgers at Celtic Park, which points the finger back towards the Chelsea player.
