Danish football is in a mess of colossal proportions.
The DBU has failed to come to an agreement with the country’s national team over pay and commercial agreements. It’s not pretty, and, right now, there’s no squad in place for the upcoming matches against Wales and Slovakia.
Each side is, predictably, blaming the other and the Danish public don’t know what to think, not being given enough information by either party in the battle. Statements are being made which bypass the media, and when a news outlet can get a chat with a player involved the answers are vague and there’s clearly not a confidence to be able to press them.
The latest member of the Denmark squad (or the old Denmark squad) to speak is Mathias Jørgensen. Zanka was seen entering a Copenhagen hotel on Monday evening, where several players are holding a meeting to discuss the next step forward in this mess.
Asked if in some way he’s being greedy, the footballer said: “If you think so, it’s because you have not gone into things. I thought about it too, you know. This is a fine question, but it is not the essence of the case, and it is not at all what is being discussed – both the DBU and we know, and therefore we are opposed to our director going out and insinuating in the media that the players are greedy.”
It’s now at crisis point, and Huddersfield Town will hope their player doesn’t get too wrapped up in the situation.
