Chile manager Reinaldo Rueda has revealed the reason why Alexis Sanchez hasn’t been called up for the national team’s next friendlies against Japan and South Korea.

According to the boss, the Manchester United star isn’t injured. He’s just working to be in better shape, and isn’t joining La Roja due to the club’s wish.

“It’s a recommendation from Manchester United’s medical staff,” said Rueda (via La Tercera). “He’s been recovering… the suggestion was that he should not participate in these friendlies. Respecting that and what Alexis feels, we did not take him it into account for this call up.”

Sanchez missed the Premier League game against Brighton due to a hamstring injury, but was brought on against Tottenham Hotspur last Monday during the second half.

The 29-year-old appears to be fit for Manchester United’s next clash, which will be played against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

The Chilean international continues to struggle to find at Old Trafford the same good form he’s shown for Arsenal in the past. He has three goals and five assists in 20 appearances for Manchester United since signing for the club in January.
