Club ‘accelerated’ efforts in signing Celtic player, contacted Rodgers’ side on Tuesday

On August 28th, we covered a report from L’Equipe that Celtic are ‘disturbed’ by Lyon and Marseille and their late pursuit of Moussa Dembele.

France Football now claims Rudi Garcia’s side have ‘accelerated’ their efforts in signing the striker and the leaders of the club contacted the Scottish champions on Tuesday to find out if there is any possibility of a transfer.

Les Phocéens have to be wary of the Financial Fair Play regulations and therefore have offered to take the 22-year-old on a loan deal with a compulsory obligation to sign him for €15 to €20m. They could even send one of Clinton Njie or Valère Germain to Scotland in order to reduce the price tag.

Lyon, on the other hand, have the financial muscle to beat their league rivals in signing Dembele, but it’s still not clear whether they will convert their interest into a bid.

The report mentions Brendan Rodgers’ side may not be open to the idea of their player’s transfer and could retain him, despite interest from the two clubs.

With less than three days left in the transfer window, France Football ends their report with “to be continued…”, meaning there could be more to this soap opera.
