Diafra Sakho was, according to English claims, close to a move to Aston Villa around a week ago, but then the Championship club foundĀ a forward elsewhere.
Anwar El Ghazi arrived from Ligue 1 club Lille, and Rennes’ Sakho was left stewing.
French newspaper Le Telegramme looks at the situation, and they believe the signing of El Ghazi will have likely killed Sakho’s chances of moving to Aston Villa on loan for the season.
The former West Ham player moved to Rennes in January, and things started well with a goal on his debut. Unfortunately, the striker was only able to find the net once more in the French league and hasn’t scored so far this season.
Le Telegramme say there was annoyance from the crowd towards him during the victory over Angers last week, and Sakho is under pressure.
It’s stated the the 28 year old is determined to make his stay at Rennes work and isn’t looking for the next way out.
Rennes face Marseille away on Sunday evening, and if Sakho puts in a poor performance then the pressure will rise, and his club may start looking at other options.
That could present an opportunity for Aston Villa should they wish to add another alongside the recruitment of El Ghazi.
