Chelsea are reportedly in negotiations with Santos to seal a partnership between the clubs.
The first talks happened last week, during Santos president Modesto Roma’s visit to London. Although many reports said the official was only there to sell some players, UOL claims that the meeting turned out to be about something quite interesting.
Another idea is about women’s football. Brazilian clubs usually struggle to afford a female squad, and that’s why Santos spent three years without one. As Chelsea are considered as a reference in the matter, Modesto Roma wants a partnership so the ladies could have exchanges, bringing more resources and visibility to the sport in Brazil.
And the third agreement would be about the club’s youth teams. Santos have a good history of developing their own players, which happened to the likes of Robinho, Elano, Diego, Alex, Neymar, Ganso, Thiago Maia and Gabigol. The report says the club is seen as an example and a partnership would suit Chelsea well.
The negotiations are still ongoing, and UOL doesn’t give a date for the deal to be agreed. A long term relationship between Santos and Chelsea would be very interesting indeed, and could be a masterstroke for both clubs.
