On July 24th, Mundo Deportivo reported David Lopez’s agent Albert Valles was set to meet with Espanyol, who are planning to offer his client a contract extension. The club’s former directors promised him a new deal last year, but they are yet to fulfil it.
Another report from Mundo Deportivo now claims general sports director Oscar Perarnau and director of professional football Rufete are trying to keep their predecessors’ promise of securing his long-term future.
Espanyol have already presented a proposal. Valles will study thoroughly the offer made by the La Liga outfit and respond to them in the next few days. This is all under pressure from Fulham, who ‘want the footballer’ and are ‘willing to fight for him’.
The English outfit are ready to offer €20m plus handful of variables which will benfit Lopez’s employer. His release clause is €40m and the Catalan club are unwilling to allow their player for a lower fee.
Mundo mentions the situation is ‘more than complicated’.
