On July 20th, Espanyol CEO Roger Guasch admitted Fulham’s low bids for David Lopez showed “lack of respect”.
Mundo Deportivo now claims Espanyol view the 28-year-old as a key part of their project. They are trying to close the exit door so they don’t lose him this summer.
Meanwhile, Slavisa Jokanovic is ‘persuading’ the leaders of the Cottagers to land Lopez. The managerial pressure on the English club is so much that they are reportedly willing to ‘fight’ with the La Liga outfit for the player.
The London side have made an ‘important offer’ for Lopez, which makes it ‘irresistible’ because it sees the player’s salary increase threefold. The English side are ready to offer €20m plus a handful of variables which will benefit the club.
In order to keep him around, Espanyol are ready to hand him a new contract, but the offer is not meeting his expectations. Espanyol president Chen Yansheng will be forced to make another proposal if he wants to keep Lopez at the club.
Fulham’s strong proposal has now put the player’s continuity at the RCDE Stadium in danger. Mundo claim that, based on the current situation, Lopez is more likely to leave than stay.
This is either very strong real interest, or Fulham being used to help David Lopez get a better contract.
