Liverpool tell club what they think transfer fee should be

João Carlos Teixeira has joined Porto for free, but not completely. Besides the player and agent fees, the Portuguese club will also have to pay a small amount to Liverpool due to the midfielder’s years of development at the English club.

According to Record, Liverpool are asking for €270k from Porto as the Reds were responsible for part of the 23-year-old’s development.

The newspaper reveals that clubs only have this right when they’ve offered the athlete a contract renewal, which means that Teixeira has turned down Liverpool’s offer to stay.

Record’s article explains that although Premier League clubs are classed as first tier, which means they should be paid €90k per year they had the player, the amount is based on the lowest tier between the sides involved in the transfer, which in this case is Porto, since Portugal belong to the second level. So Porto must pay Liverpool €60k per year that Teixeira spent there.

Teixeira signed for the Reds from Sporting in February 2012, so as the midfielder stayed at Anfield for four and a half seasons, this value ends up being €270k.
