Bought as part of Tim Sherwood’s very short lived French revolution at Aston Villa, Jordan Veretout failed to have the impact many expected from him last season as his side got relegated from the Premier League.
However, many recognise the 23-year-old midfielder, bought for around £8m from Ligue 1 side FC Nantes, still has a lot of potential, and quite a few clubs are prepared to save him from playing in the Championship if Emmanuel Merceron is to be believed.
The former FC Nantes sales rep, who still has a lot of ties to the club and its players of past and present, listed the list of suitors keeping an eye on the young midfielder, which includes a Premier League club.
According to Mr Merceron, Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth are keeping an eye on the player, as well as Celtic, Celta Vigo, Betis Seville, Lyon and Lille.
It’s also worth pointing out Bournemouth’s interest is anything but surprising considering the then newly promoted club tried to sign the midfielder before he chose Aston Villa over them.
That’s quite an extensive list of potential destinations for the player, who made 29 appearances for the Villains last season, picking up five assists in the process, and if he is given the pick of the bunch, then we cannot see him staying at Villa much longer, regardless of who the new owners are or who the new manager is.
