Matteo Darmian to Juventus was once considered pretty much done by Tuttosport. Repeatedly, the Turin newspaper said Darmian had a 95% chance of joining Juventus in the summer window, and it was assumed he’d be one of the club’s first signings.
But Manchester United’s perceived high demands may have killed things. It’s claimed in Italy that Ed Woodward and co have been asking for €20-25m to release the fullback.
That would have been a good deal if Juve had picked it up, but it seems the Turin club weren’t playing a negotiating game, they’re truly not willing to pay such an amount for the player.
With a move for Joao Cancelo now looking likelier, Juventus still want another fullback, but Darmian is dropping down the list of priorities. The club are looking for a back-up who is truly more a left sided player, and whilst the Manchester United player can be deployed at left back, it’s not his primary position.
Therefore Bayern Munich’s Juan Bernat has leapfrogged him, according to Tuttosport, and Barcelona’s Lucas Digne is also an option.
Woodward may need to call Juve and offer up Darmian for less, or hope another club comes in for the player this summer.
