Dedryck Boyata started 28 league games for Celtic last season and his form saw him being selected for Roberto Martinez’s Belgium squad for the 2018 World Cup.
He started in Belgium’s 3-0 victory over Panama and expressed his delight after making his debut in his first major competition for his country.
The 27-year-old has one year left on his contract with his current employers. Brendan Rodgers wants the Scottish champions to tie down the former Manchester City defender to a new deal, however, that looks difficult as per Thursday’s report from Il Messaggero.
Celtic’s centre-back reportedly has no plans to continue with his current employers beyond the summer transfer window. Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws has relayed the same information today as the Bhoys are prepared to lose their star player.
Rodgers’ side are expected to allow Boyata leave, if the potential suitors can meet their €6m asking price. Lazio are one of the clubs interested in landing him this summer. If he leaves, then Celtic will look to bring in a replacement.
HLN claims Celtic have identified Deportivo La Coruña’s Swiss international defender Fabian Schar as a transfer target. He is currently with his national team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and started in his side’s 1-1 draw against Brazil.
