Manchester United were one of a number of clubs, several from the Premier League, to have an official watch the match between Tondela and Benfica on Saturday night. Portuguese newspaper O Jogo received the official list of officials and have published it in their Sunday edition.
The club often scout matches in Portugal, but attending games at Tondela’s Estádio João Cardoso, which has a capacity of just 5,000, isn’t so common.
Benfica won the match 2-0 and it provided a chance for a youngster to start making a name for himself. Andre Horta is 19 years of age and only joined Benfica in June from Vitoria Setubal, but he scored one of the goals and O Jogo named him Man of the Match.
Horta would be one for the future, and that’s probably the same for another Benfica youngster on display, Goncalo Guedes, who has been linked with Manchester United sporadically.
In May, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet strongly linked Manchester United with Victor Lindelof, although the reports didn’t seem too reliable. Lindelof played the full 90 minutes, but O Jogo only rated him as 5 out of 10.
