Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne previously had spells at Everton, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Lille.
The France international has been speaking to Téléfoot to give an insight into how his transfers to Barcelona and PSG took shape. Le10 Sport have relayed his comments.
Digne, who has been at Aston Villa since January 2022, says Luis Enrique played a key role in his move from PSG to Barcelona in July 2016.
The current PSG manager spent three years at Barcelona, winning the treble during the 2014/15 season. Enrique pushed the La Liga winners to sign the left-back from PSG.
The 32-year-old didn’t hesitate to join the Catalan club after receiving a call from Enrique, who was then in charge at the Camp Nou.
“It’s a dream. It was the club I dreamed of playing for,” he said.
“When I got the call from Luis Enrique, saying that Barca wanted me, I didn’t even hesitate, like 99% of players wouldn’t. When I arrived, it was just extraordinary. Luis Enrique called me and said, ‘I want you to come to Barca’.”
Digne played 3,190 minutes from 46 matches during his two-year spell at Barcelona. He left them for the Merseyside club in August 2018.
The fullback also admitted he fulfilled another dream when he secured a move to PSG in 2013.
The current Aston Villa player insists it was logical step forward for him to leave Lille for the Ligue 1 winners. Another report from Le10 has relayed his comments.
“It’s a whole different world. It’s a club that wanted to win everything when I arrived, and I shared that ambition. I wanted to develop quickly. Joining this club was the next logical step for me. I was staying in France, so I was close to my family. Everything was in place for me. It was really great,” Digne explained.
“I also got to meet some great guys who took care of me, who helped me grow. I’m thinking of Matuidi, Jallet, Douchez, who took me under their wing.”
Digne has been the first choice left-back for Unai Emery. He played 14 matches for Aston Villa this season.
