If France Football are to be believed, all that stands in between Steve Mandanda and his return to Marseille is €1m.

In their weekly edition, the French magazine claim there’s an 85% chance of seeing the former France number two return to Ligue 1 next year, with his ex-club the likeliest destination.

As things stand, France Football explain that Steve Parish still wants Crystal Palace to make a profit on the player, despite lowering his demand from €5m to €3m, but Marseille are standing firm.

The French side are said to only want to pay €2m, which is basically what the Eagles paid for him in the first place.

However, there’s a new spanner in the works, and it could be a big one: Palace’s next manager.

The identity of the man replacing Sam Allardyce has yet to be revealed, and if he wants Steve Mandanda as his number one, the Premier League club could easily pull the plug on any potential transfer.

The player, down his end, has let his former club he’d like to return, and has already had a chat with their director of football Andoni Zubizarreta.

Mandanda, should he sign, would be on a three-year contract, and would most likely be the last ex-player to return to Marseille.

That’s unfortunate for André Ayew.
