Arsenal are following Sporting Club de Portugal forward Victor Gyökeres ‘with greater attention’ ahead of the summer as he continues to shine in Portugal.
That’s according to A Bola, who say Arsenal have ‘highlighted him very well’ and look increasingly likely to try and sign him in the summer transfer window.
Reports in England this week have linked Arsenal with a move for Gyökeres, who has 31 goals and 11 assists in 34 games in all competitions for Sporting this season after arriving from Coventry City.
He’s established himself as one of the stars of European football, rising to the level of the biggest stars and backing up that status with the numbers he is producing.
It’s made him one of the ‘most sought-after’ players in Europe according to A Bola and they back up the reports from England regarding Arsenal’s interest.
Their information is that Arsenal, alongside PSG, having highlighted the player’s name in their books and are ‘increasingly following him with greater interest’ as he continues to score and get closer to his target of 40 goals for the season.
They explain that Gyökeres had always targeted the move to Portugal to put himself in the viewfinder of the big clubs and ‘the truth’ is that such a move is now ‘an increasingly shorter distance away’.
The big question is how much Sporting will charge for their star man, having invested €21m in the summer already.
They would presumably want that doubled or tripled and are known to be hard negotiators so Arsenal will need to be ready to dig deep, with the belief in Portugal at least that they will be bidding at some point in the near future.
