Towards the end of December, Corriere dello Sport reported Joshua Zirkzee was pushing to leave Manchester United.
AS Roma had been working on an initial loan deal for weeks but hadn’t found an opening.
The Dutchman had lost trust in Ruben Amorim and his system, having lost his starting spot under him.
The Portuguese manager’s sacking had the chance to make Zirkzee more comfortable at Manchester United but that isn’t quite the case.
Il Messaggero report that even if Ole Gunnar Solskjær returns to Old Trafford, the 24-year-old wants to leave. He believes that under the Norwegian, he won’t get enough game time to prove himself.
Roma sporting director Ricky Massara has made fresh contact with his entourage, who have reiterated a desire to join the Italian side.
As a result, the Giallorossi have already put forward a four-year deal for Zirkzee. They are also willing to offer him a wage worth €3m plus bonuses, with the player keen to play at the World Cup for the Netherlands.
He feels that Gian Piero Gasperini’s system will bring the most out of him.
Roma now need to wait for Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo to return to Manchester United. They remain confident that once this happens, Zirkzee’s move to the Stadio Olimpico will be a matter of time.
