Pawel Cibicki has revealed how he would waste his wages at Leeds United in four or five days through his complete lack of respect for money.
The striker is currently without a club after being suspended from football for four years by the Court of Appeal. That brought a premature end to a career that has seen him playing in Sweden, England and Poland.
He spent three years with Leeds, originally joining from Malmo in a €1.6m deal but never impressing at Elland Road.
He was sent on loan to Molde just a year after arriving and then Elfsburg in 2019 and Dutch side Ado den Haag in the Netherlands before eventually leaving Leeds permanently for Pogon Stettin in January 2020.
He’s now sat down to discuss his ban, which was issued due to betting offences, and detailed how he would wildly spend the money he was earning at Leeds.
“I started to gamble a little, for 10-20Kr,” he told Expressen.
“But the more I gambled, the bigger the sums eventually became. Eventually, I just lost it. I had no respect for money any longer. In the end, it became large sums.
“When I was earning the most, when I was playing in England, I had about 200,000kr (roughly £16k) out a month. Sometimes I could waste it in four or five days.
“I think it’s a big problem. It’s getting bigger and bigger every day. If you sit and watch TV, when there are commercials. What’s coming up?
“Quite honestly, I hope more people dare to come forward. It’s a shame, yes. But if you can break it, you can get out of it.”
