KRC Genk’s Zakaria El Ouahdi has told Het Belang van Limburg that he’s delighted with Daniel Muñoz’s decision to join Crystal Palace in the winter market.
The Eagles were initially reluctant to meet the Belgian club’s demand, resulting in the 27-year-old refusing to train with them. The parties found a compromise and his move to Crystal Palace was concluded towards the end of the window.
Genk manager Wouter Vrancken was unhappy over losing the 27-year-old to the Premier League side.
The Jupiler Pro League side’s technical director, Dimitri De Condé, has admitted that he wasn’t pleased to part ways with the Colombia international.
El Ouahdi doesn’t share the same view as Vrancken and De Condé, and isn’t disappointed with the right-back’s sale to Crystal Palace.
“His transfer to Crystal Palace was very good news for both Daniel Muñoz, who saw his Premier League dream come true, and for me. I have learned a lot from him over the past six months and I would like to show what I am capable of,” he said.
Last summer, Genk signed the 22-year-old Moroccan from RWDM and he was the South American’s backup in the first half of the season.
Muñoz’s exit has since allowed the right-back to feature regularly.
Muñoz has signed a deal until 2027 with the London club, with an option for another year.
He made his Crystal Palace debut in the league defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
