Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku this summer, according to multiple claims from France.

Last season, the forward struggled for a prominent role in the Premier League under Enzo Maresca and his situation at Chelsea is unlikely to improve.

Newcastle could take the 27-year-old away from Chelsea. That’s according to journalist Marc Mechenoua, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an update on the Magpies and two other clubs.

He reports Bayern Munich have returned with a proposal after Chelsea rejected their loan offer. Newcastle and Inter Milan are also in the race and the journalist adds their projects are of interest to the former RB Leipzig man.

Foot Mercato covers Newcastle and Inter interest in a report that focuses mainly on the Bundesliga winners.

Nkunku can operate across several attacking positions and has already played in Germany before. His versatility, profile and understanding of the Bundesliga make him an attractive option for Bayern Munich, who are seriously considering signing him.

Vincent Kompany’s side aren’t alone as Newcastle, Inter and Bayer Leverkusen are also in the tussle to sign the France international.

Foot Mercato say the Frenchman sees this window as a ‘real opportunity to bounce back’, meaning look for a new club. He’s looking to play regularly for a Champions League club, which Newcastle can offer, in order to represent his country at the next World Cup.

Chelsea, for their part, are willing to sell and have set a price of €40-50m.
